As of late 2020, air pollution and greenhouse gases combined to cause public health and environmental damage (GED) equivalent to 8% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the U.S. Over the last five to ten years, GED averaged about 6% of GDP. The 10 largest Metropolitan areas impacted include: New York, Los Angeles city, San Diego, San Jose, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Philadelphia, and Phoenix.
